Why Study History?
The study of history provides access to a virtual laboratory of human experience. Historian
H. W. Brands says of history that “History is a story… in fact, it is the best
story I can think of.” With the study of history comes the acquisition of the admiration of perspective and experience. It is through this admiration that progress can truly be cultivated. We cannot think if we do not know. To understand the thinking that provided the foundation for the society we exist in today is to truly begin to cultivate the thinking necessary of effecting great social progress for the future.
